Functional Medicine for Brain Fog

If you feel fatigued, unfocused, and unmotivated, there may be underlying conditions at play. Often people face an uphill battle when they try to have more willpower to get through the day and don’t address health issues.

Brain fog is akin to a haze that envelops the mind, obscuring clarity and impeding cognitive function. Individuals experiencing brain fog often find themselves grappling with a range of symptoms that disrupt their daily lives and hinder their ability to function at their best.

What is Brain Fog and Its Symptoms?

Brain fog is a term used to describe common symptoms having to do with mental clarity and energy levels. It can be caused by a number of factors, and for many people, brain fog can be a chronic condition.

One of the hallmark features of brain fog is a lack of focus and concentration. Despite efforts to engage with work, study, or even simple activities, individuals are unable to sustain concentration for prolonged periods. This difficulty concentrating can impede productivity and performance, making it challenging to complete tasks efficiently and effectively.

Memory lapses and forgetfulness are common companions of brain fog, leaving individuals feeling as though they’re constantly grappling with a mental fog that obscures their recollection of important information. Simple tasks such as remembering appointments, names, or where items are located become arduous endeavors, leading to frustration and anxiety about cognitive decline.

Many people also report finding it difficult to think clearly or make decisions with confidence. Individuals may experience a subjective sensation of being mentally sluggish or slowed down. This lack of mental clarity can be particularly distressing, impacting not only cognitive function but also emotional well-being.

Common Causes of Brain Fog

When we work together in Berkeley or via telehealth, we will spend time searching for the root cause of your symptoms. The body is an interconnected system, so an imbalance in one area will likely impact performance in another. As we will see, the brain can be impacted by a number of factors that can commonly become imbalanced with age and/or due to environmental stressors.

The Functional Medicine
Approach to Address Brain Fog

Our functional medicine approach aims to identify and address the root causes of health issues rather than merely treating symptoms. We assess various factors contributing to brain fog, including diet, lifestyle, environmental exposures, and underlying health conditions. By conducting thorough evaluations, including comprehensive lab testing and personalized assessments, I tailor treatment plans to address individual needs and promote optimal cognitive function.

Have Migraines?

Beyond addressing brain fog, we also work with individals suffering with migraine, a neurological condition characterized by severe headaches often accompanied by sensory disturbances. We often see people who haven’t found relief from conventional treatments. Migraines can manifest with symptoms overlapping with those of brain fog, such as cognitive impairment and fatigue. Individuals experiencing migraines or related neurological symptoms are encouraged to seek specialized care to address their specific needs and improve their quality of life.

I am trained in Dr. Dale Bredesen’s program to prevent and reverse cognitive decline. I work in conjunction with his Apollo Health Platform to help people with memory issues effectively use his PreCODE and ReCODE brain health protocols.
